Dog behavior implies to the compilation of conduct by domestic canines. The domestic dog of various species is a subspecies of the gray wolf and does possess a multitude of its behavioral attributes. It goes without saying that the differences between the gray wolf and domestic dogs are quite distinctive, but modern opinions of dog conduct are very much influenced by studies on wild wolves.
An archetypal canine relies heavily and are very dependent on companionship, If this is taken away, dogs can become aggressive; they would bark incessantly, howl, start to dig everywhere and will most definitely, start tearing and chewing furniture. A house can resemble a holocaust once its done rampaging. This causes much distress for dog owners everywhere, who are constantly frustrated on what to do to rectify the dilemma.
Bad behavior in domestic dogs include: -
- Being aggressive is indicated by its ears going forward and backwards, very close to the cranium.
- A distressed dog will also narrow its eyes and stare at the owner in a challenging manner.
- Its mouth and teeth is gnarls and at times, jaw snapping is evident.
- When a dog displays bad behavior, its body becomes rigid, and hackles are up. This is the dog’s way of showing dominance.
- Its tail will be aligned straight from the body, all fluffed at attention.
- An unhappy canine will snarl, bark non-stop and growl menacingly.
- A dog which urinates all over the house and compound.
- Not following previously agreed –to commands. Instead it does the exact opposite.
- Attacking its owner and other people.
- Biting other dogs without due warning.
- Dogs which are not fed properly or given low-quality food.
- Restlessness from lack of companionship resulting in sullenness and deliberate disobedience.
Some dog breeds are more aggressive than others. These breeds simply act upon their antagonistic instincts and are tough to control, although not impossible. All dog breeds are proficient in acting accordingly, it all depends on their owners A good owner knows to treat his charge with compassion albeit firmness.
No matter the breed, whether the mellow Labrador or the super-hyper Jack Russell can become violent if their basic needs are not provided. A dog constantly caged will almost always display dangerous behavior.
We have differing opinions on what constitutes aggressive dog breeds. Typical aggressive dogs with bad behavior tendencies include Bull mastiffs, Dobermans, German Shepherds and Bulldogs. Truth of the matter is, these breeds show signs of aggression because of years of conditioning, and also because of their domineering appearances. Stereotyping in movies did not help their cause either. You would be surprised to know that smaller breeds such as Chihuahuas and Dachshunds can also be quite feisty. These ‘toy’ dogs, as they are affectionately labeled, can show belligerence if not handled properly.
There are many cases reported of dogs attacking small children and adults, sometimes ending tragically in death. Despite these reports, cases like these are quite far and in between. Most of the times, dogs which take human lives were infected with diseases such as rabies.
